                        Campus Ministry

To act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with God
                        - Micah 6:8

As a central pillar of our College Mission, St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace fundamentally aspires to develop “men of faith and learning”. Our faith is an intrinsic part of everything we do at Terrace – from the classroom to the sporting fields and in our dealings with one another. Our sense of faith, service and identity emanates from the Campus Ministry.

Our Campus Ministry follows in the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice and is an essential part of our rich and integrated education at Terrace. Indeed, it is the basic platform for understanding the teachings behind our faith. We challenge our students to put their faith into action– in the quality of their relationships, in their giving and compassion and throughout their lives.

The aim of our community is to propel our College Mission as well as the Touchstones of a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, as outlined in Edmund Rice Education Australia's (EREA) Charter.

                        Service Ministry

“Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25: 40

A key tenet of the mission of Gregory Terrace is ‘to instil a spirit of service in the context of Catholic values with a strong and principled commitment to the poor and marginalised. By doing so, ‘We seek opportunities in partnership with others to develop right relationships that respect the dignity of each person.’

Enacting this mission, in conjunction with the application of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, the Terrace Family has a long and proud tradition of fostering human dignity through social justice action.

The Service Ministry program of Gregory Terrace fosters the ideals of service learning, focusing on experiences that promote a deepening of the understanding of scriptural foundations and meaning of Christian service and how Christian service is exercised. The Service Ministry programs of Gregory Terrace include active engagement in outreach experiences that aim to develop a 'Relational Spirituality' between the staff and students of St Joseph’s College and the poor and marginalized of our College, local and global communities. The staff, students, parents, Old Boys and friends of St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace are invited to be active participants in the Service Ministry of the College.

Big Brekkie on the Eddie’s Van

Students, staff, parents and Old Boys of St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace, supported by friends and community groups, conduct a Big Brekkie for homeless people in and around the gardens of the inner city each weekday morning.

                        Night Van

Supported by Terrace Old Boys and Friends, the Eddie’s Van has a presence on the street at night, serving tea, coffee and soup.

                        Peer Ministry

A vital ingredient in the delivery of many of our programs is the presence of the College’s Peer Ministers. Peer Ministers are recent Old Boys from Terrace whose sole purpose is enriching the pastoral care, retreat and service programs within the College.

Through their ability to share their own life stories and by facilitating and working on retreat and service programs, our Peer Ministers help students strive for identity in their spiritual development. Our Ministry challenges our students to be active in their faith rather than passive.

                        Timor-Leste Ministry

All members of the Terrace Family are invited into our mutual friendship with the people of Timor-Leste, supporting the previous mission of the Christian Brothers Timor-Leste ministry (concluded in 2018), Comunidade Edmund Rice. Students and staff participate in the Kolega Café and a Lenten Appeal and Walk in support of the College’s long term friendship with the people of Timor-Leste.

                        House Friendships

Each of the nine Houses of Terrace foster friendships founded on mutuality, whereby here is a mutual liberation of hearts and mind.
