Principal's Message | Dr Michael Carroll

Dear Members of the Terrace Family,

This coming Monday the College will celebrate St Joseph’s Day with a liturgy in the morning.  As our patron, St Joseph is a role model for the Terrace Gentleman.  He was a husband and a father and he taught us much about being humble.  There are many Catholic schools and Colleges using the name of 'St Joseph'.  We, as one of these Colleges, are proud of St Joseph and attempt to emulate the characteristics of strength and humility that he demonstrated.

Next week also sees the commencement of the Term 1 exams.  The Years 11 and 12 students need only attend school for their exams whilst all other year levels need to be at school all day.  The exam timetable has been published, so it is important that all students are aware of when their exams have been scheduled and what equipment is needed.  Good preparation, including a restful night’s sleep before exams, having the correct equipment and having done the necessary study, are all key components to successful exam results.

Term 1 will conclude at 2.50pm on Thursday 29 March.  I remind parents that any earlier departure requests should be directed to myself.  I also remind parents that the College does not permit students to sit exams early and any missed exams will be recorded as an X on Term 1 reports.  I would ask that families avoid early departures wherever possible.

Last weekend our rowers participated in the Head of the River.  This was the culmination of a long and demanding season.  The results on the day were excellent with Terrace recording wins in the Year 10  2nd Quad and the Year 10  5th Quad.  The 1st VIII were placed a creditable fourth and overall Terrace was placed fourth in the O’Connor Cup.  Congratulations to all rowers, their coaches and the rowing fraternity.

There are only two rounds of this term’s sporting program remaining.  It is important, that whilst preparing for the upcoming exams is essential, we must also honour our commitment to these two rounds of fixtures and finish the seasons well.

Finally this week, our Year 5 students begin their camp program.  This will be their first experience at Maroon.  Whilst I m sure that there is some apprehension as they approach camp, the excitement of their first camp and their first experience at Maroon will also be very real.  I wish all our Year 5 students and their teachers all the best with their upcoming camps.

Have a great week.
God Bless,

Dr Michael Carroll
