Dean of Students | Mr Damien Fall

When I went to school, the world was a far simpler place.  As a school student, I did not have access to computers, mobile phones, gaming consoles and the like.  While these devices bring great entertainment, they also come with their issues, as most parents will have experienced.  They present an ongoing challenge for both teachers and parents.  The latest devices that I would never have predicted to be a problem are the ‘Lime’ electric hire scooters that have suddenly appeared around the streets of Brisbane.  A number of our older students have started to use them to travel to and from school during the exam period, which causes us great concern for student safety.  In the interests of safety, students are not to ride these scooters as a means of transport to or from school.  I am deeply concerned that someone might make a mistake around the busy inner-city that leads to a tragedy.  While the school year is over, I want to get this message out now, so that students are aware of our expectations when the new year commences.  I would appreciate parents supporting us with this important safety issue.

As we close out another academic year, I would like to acknowledge the College Pastoral Team, who work hard in caring for and forming the Gentlemen of Terrace.  Their expert input into the pastoral care program has been invaluable and I feel extremely fortunate to be amongst the talent that exists within the team.  I thank all members of the team for their efforts and I look forward to them continuing their great work in 2019.  In particular, I would like to extend the gratitude of all in the community to Mrs Jo Tarlington whose dedication to the College is truly remarkable.  Student Services could not function as it does without Jo’s constant efforts.

The building program in 2018 has presented its challenges in a crowded school, thus we are very excited about the middle of next year, when a significant amount of space is returned to the students.

As we enter the holiday period, I am very conscious that an education at Terrace is a family effort.  It is very clear that many parents also look forward to the holidays as a well-deserved break from the routines of uniforms, homework, lunches and early morning training.  I want to thank and congratulate all of our parents on the way you support the partnership with school as a means of getting the best out of your sons.  You deserve a break and I hope the holiday period is restful.  All the very best to all members of the Terrace Family for a peaceful, happy and holy Christmas break.  I look forward to seeing you in 2019.
