Principal’s Message | Dr Michael Carroll

Dear members of the Terrace Family,

Welcome to Week 3. I hope that the routines of the school year are starting to fall into place for you and your sons. Last Friday, we were witness to our Opening Mass and Induction.  The strong sense of community and partnership were very evident in so many ways: the large number of parents present, the enthusiastic band of Year 11 parent helpers, the strong sense of connection of the staff and of course, the respectful involvement of the student body. It was a proud day to be a part of the Terrace Family. My thanks and congratulations to all involved.

Similarly, on Tuesday we hosted the Scholars' Assembly, acknowledging the 37 young men from 2018 who were awarded an OP1.  The College Dux, Jacob Montaner, spoke of the commitment, collegiality and support that existed amongst this group and their teachers, and encouraged the current students to continue to foster the strong ‘Culture of Learning’ that permeates through Terrace.  It was another occasion when I felt very proud to be part of the Terrace Family.

The Information Nights have continued this week and I thank the staff and parents for their support of these evenings.  My thanks to the TLG and the large band of helpers who provided the hospitality for the Years 5, 6, 7 and 10 nights.  At these nights I indicated that I would be using the Terrace News to further communicate the College’s Strategic Directions for 2019.  I will commence this in next week’s edition.

The GPS Co-Curricular season has commenced.  This week I would like to acknowledge our Cultural Captains for 2019.  These young men will lead their respective activities and I am confident that they will do this to the highest standard.  I congratulate the following students and wish them well for 2019:

Co-Captains of Chess – James Hurst and Yang Zhang
Debating Captain – Scott Moran
Debating Vice Captain – Alexander Sullivan

Music Captain – Jack Gardiner
Music Vice Captain – Clancy Gundrum

Finally this week, I thank the parents for their assistance with the drop off/pick up part of the day and in particular, the focus on safety.  Please continue to reinforce the message of road safety and safe road crossings with your sons.

Have a great week.

God bless.
