Director of Sport | Mr Tony McGahan

Welcome to Term 4 Sport

Welcome back to Terrace Sport for the start of Term 4, following an active Term 3 culminating with the Terrace 1st V Basketball team's great performance in the last game of the season, resulting in the shared 2019 Basketball premiership.

This term,  GPS Track and Field training continues with Friday night meets . The Junior GPS Track and Field carnival will be held on Thursday 31 October and the Senior GPS Track and Field carnival on Saturday 2 November.  Both Head Coach Mr Werner Botha and Track and Field Coordinator Mr Anthony Hayward are still looking to accommodate talented athletes from other sports to compete this term and represent Terrace.

Swimming, Volleyball, Rowing and Cricket start back this term in preseason mode for the Term 1 GPS competition.

For the 2020 Terrace Sport season we will be having a strong focus across the following areas for our programs.
• Leadership
• Terrace experience/identity/history – across each individual sport e.g. Terrace Rowing, Terrace Volleyball, etc.
• Training Ethic/Coach Quality
• Athlete Development program

We also welcome past Australian Rugby Union player, Old Boy and current parent Mr Mark Chisholm into the Terrace Sport department as the Director of Athlete Development.  Mark will join us in Week 2 of this term. We look forward to Mark’s impact on our sport program across all GPS sports and sport in general.

Recent Sporting news and achievements

Congratulations to the students who have competed in the following events recently.

Rowing

We had a handful of boys compete at the Queensland Schools Championships, with some great results from a limited amount of entries.

• First in the Year 9 Coxed Quad to be crowned State Champions after winning the GPS Head of the River earlier this year
• Third in the Open Coxed VIII

Parent Lounge

Participation in the College Sport program is growing and will continue to do so due to the quality of the programming that allows for all levels of participation and quality of coaching across the individual sports.  The flow of communication to families is extremely important in keeping everybody informed. It is vital to make sure you have signed on electronically through Parent Lounge.

Attendance at training

I ask that all boys commit to their attendance at training twice a week and present ready for their games, home or away. Representing the College is something to be valued. Being a team member who can be depended on entails sacrifice and commitment, no matter what level or activity.

Uniform

Please be aware that all Directors, Coordinators and Coaches have been asked to monitor training and playing uniform.  We want to ensure we are representing the College and ourselves on and off the field with the highest standards.

Have a great Term 4 in Terrace Sport.
