Principal’s Message | Dr Michael Carroll

Dear members of the Terrace Family,

Welcome back to Term 4. I trust the recent holiday break provided you and your family with the opportunity to recharge the batteries ready for the ‘sprint’ of Term 4.

Over the holiday break, I had the pleasure of spending some time touring with the Terrace Choir and Strings ensemble in Italy.  The 27 young men who formed the tour party ranged from Year 7 to Year 12 and were great ambassadors for Terrace.  During the tour,  the students performed at Mass in St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, participated in a music workshop at the Conservatory in Florence, visited the United Nations in Geneva, performed in the forecourt in front of St Francis’ Basilica in Assisi and performed during Mass at the Basilica Santa Maria Degli Angeli in Assisi. The tour culminated with a performance during Mass at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Video of the performances is on the Terrace Facebook page, and further highlights will be posted over the next couple of weeks. My congratulations to all the staff and students involved with the tour.

Term 4 is traditionally a short, full and busy term with many ‘end of year’ activities occurring. This year will be no different, and I encourage all students to commence their academic journey this week.  For our Year 12 students, the journey is a brief but important one, with a further academic focus and importantly, the end of school and farewell activities.  For all students, a positive and focused start is the key to success.

On the staffing front, we welcome to Terrace Ms Harriet O’Leary, who will be replacing Mrs Karen Negus, who is on leave this term.  We also welcome Mrs Jen Todd, who will be replacing Mrs Andrea Splatt as the College’s Enrolment Officer.  During the term, further staffing appointments for 2020 will be made. I will communicate these via the Terrace News.

Finally this week, I ask you to keep the Griffin family (Finn, Year 9) in your thoughts and prayers.  Damien passed away over the holidays after a long and courageous fight.  He was a wonderful person, a proud Old Boy, husband to Louise and a loving father.  Our thoughts are with the family.

Have a great week.

God Bless.
