We look forward to watching these young men work within our programs and grow as leaders.

Terrace Debating

On behalf of the Terrace Debating families, we would like to thank Mr Sonny Ali for his governorship of our program for 2021. Ms Aimee McLean will lead our program in 2022, and we wish her every success.

We are happy to announce our new Senior A coaches for 2022 – Mr Elliot Johnston and Mr Paddy Harten. Both of these gentlemen continue to bring a wealth of debating knowledge to our program. Elliot has been our Skills and Development Coach for several years and sits on the Executive with QDU alongside coaching with the State team. Paddy is well known at Terrace not only as an Old Boy and long time coach, but he is also the winning Year 9 QDU coach for 2021 and the President of the UQ Debating society.

Welcome to both Elliot and Paddy to the role of Senior A coach.

QDU Debating State trials

We had 144 students enrolled to participate in the QDU State Trials held at Terrace last weekend. Of these students, 17 represented Terrace – which was the most from any School or College – including some current Year 9 students.

Of the 17 Terracians, eight have been called back to be part of the top 48 debaters at these trials. Congratulations to the following students: Thomas Nunn-Rutledge (2022 Terrace Debating Captain and Senior A), Thomas Musgrave (2022 Terrace Debating Vice Captain and Senior A), Adrian Jesuthasan(2022 Terrace Chess Captain), Harry Walsh (Year 12, 2022 and Senior A), JoshSullivan (Year 12, 2022), Liam Cleary (Year 11, 2022 and Senior A), Jack Barends (Year 11, 2022 and Senior A), WillAmes (Year 11, 2022).

Senior Musical 2022

This week has seen the first round of auditions for leads for next year’s Senior Production. We are looking forward to staging our production in May next year. Add the dates to your calendar now as all shows sell out quickly – 4-7 May.

Year in review

Once again, we have rearranged and reorganised our Cultural program to accommodate the fluidity of the COVID situation. Our year started with Debating workshops, GPS and QDU Debating, Music camp, GPS Music Showcase, Music concerts and rehearsals for the Junior Musical and Jazz Night. Term 2 saw our Junior Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, run for three sold-out nights in May. As the year progressed and lockdowns came into play, some of our debates and activities had to be postponed or cancelled. After missing the House Choir event in 2020, we were excited to return to the Pat Rafter Arena at the start of Term 3. Congratulations to Reidy and Kearney Houses, who took home the People’s Choice Shield and House Choir Cup. We also had students in the UN EVATT Public Speaking competition who progressed to the quarterfinals. The annual QCMF competition was held online this year. This meant that all our ensembles submitted their performances to be judged – and we came home with multiple medals. Terrace Chess engaged Gardiner Chess to coach our students this year as we strive to rebuild our program. Moving into Term 4 – the QDU season finally wrapped up with our Year 9.3 winning their year level in the QDU competition and Year 10.1 as runners up in their level. An excellent achievement for an extra-long season. Our percussionists have also had Australian level glory winning competitions over the past month.

Congratulations to all our students, staff, tutors and families for the success we have had in our Cultural program this year. Thank you to our families who leave the College in 2021 – your support and encouragement have helped grow our programs. We look forward to welcoming new families in 2022.
