Sport
The Sporting program at Gregory Terrace has a long and rich tradition and continues to play a major role in our students’ individual and collective experience and in the College’s goal of providing our men with a well-rounded education. There are invaluable lessons taught through participating in sport that augment and complement our students’ classroom endeavour. Sport is a vital part of learning.
Competing under our famous colours of the Red and Black, Terrace is involved in the Great Public Schools' Association (GPS) competition from Years 5-12. Sport is not compulsory but every student is strongly encouraged to represent the College and the program provides a wide range of choices for participation. Sports offered at Terrace include:
- Basketball
- Cricket
- Cross Country
- Football
- Rowing
- Rugby
- Swimming
- Tennis
- Track & Field
- Volleyball
Students of all abilities are encouraged to compete in at least one sport. The elements of participation, fun and the pursuit of skill excellence and teamwork are the primary goals of the sporting program.
The College has adopted a policy of providing its students with the best possible coaching programs, organisation and equipment. Each sport has an experienced Director of Coaching who, together with Activities Coordinators and the Director of Sport, has charge of that particular sport.
The Gregory Terrace sporting facilities are exceptional and provide wonderful opportunities for our students. In return, the College asks students for commitment and dedication to their chosen sport. College representation takes priority over club representation and representation of the College is considered a privilege, not the right of the student.
One of the major benefits of offering sport is self-discipline. If students learn to discipline themselves in an area of great interest, then this tends to transfer to their normal school behaviour and lifestyle.
Gregory Terrace has achieved and maintained considerable success in many of the sports it offers. However, the College rates the manner in which a student plans for, competes and executes the pursuit of excellence as more important than the winning of premierships alone.
Parents are able to support our Sport program through dedicated Support Groups. Support Groups meet regularly and all parents and caregivers are most welcome to play an active role in supporting their sons and our programs. Meeting dates for these Support Groups are listed in the College Calendar.
Further information on support groups or our sport program can be obtained by contacting the Sport Office via Reception on +617 3214 5200 (option 4) or email sport@terrace.qld.edu.au
