Teaching & Learning
As a future-focused learning community, Terrace’s commitment to classroom learning and the significance placed on the College’s Academic program continues to be rewarded with the achievements of its students across many areas of educational endeavour.
The College seeks to support our teachers to be the best they can be, so that they can provide the best possible education to our students. The dedication of our staff across all faculties, the care and attention applied to the delivery of curriculum, the exams and assessment process and the continued support from our families allow us to benchmark our goal of excellence in teaching and learning. Our academic and holistic culture of challenge and support for students and staff, school improvement and educational initiatives are underpinned by data, research and reflective practice.
Overseen by the Dean of Studies and the Dean of Pedagogy and Learning Innovation, curriculum delivery is the fundamental basis of Terrace’s cultivation of lifelong learning. Terrace accesses national and international best practices and is committed to ongoing development within the school structure and in the delivery of its educational programs.
In 2023, 32 graduating seniors received an ATAR of 99.00 or above. The senior class obtained a median ATAR of 93.55 and 42% of students achieved an ATAR above 95. The College proactively monitors the implementation of senior schooling curriculum and assessment regimes.
Reporting to parents occurs four times during the year. Term 3 and Term 4 reports have data on students’ cumulative results. Electronic tracking of students’ results continues through our database. The tracking of student results provides all staff with feedback on how best to support students to improve their academic outcomes.
Staff tutoring beyond school hours remains a hallmark of studies at Terrace, with a dedicated mentoring week focus each term. Old Boys facilitate Study Groups for Years 10 -12 students each morning and every afternoon. Their experience and knowledge of the College and ATAR curriculum is an invaluable resource for our students.
Organisation, often a challenge for many students, is just one of the topics addressed at Terrace. The use of the School Diary, in which students are encouraged to document time spent on homework and study as well as the completion of a Term Planner and weekly study plan, are very useful resources to enhance organisational skills. Program Leaders for specified year levels support students who may require additional support outside of the classroom with respect to organisation, routine and strategies on how to reach their academic goals.
As our priority remains lifelong learning through excellence in education, academic excellence will remain a rewarded and celebrated tradition at the College.
