Double Reed Triumph | Mr Matt Cocking
We are thrilled to celebrate Year 7 student Aiden Kim’s exceptional achievement in the 2024 Australasian Double Reed Society National Competition, held on the Gold Coast over the holiday break. Competing in the intermediate section, which caters to students of a Grade 5-6 standard, Aiden’s performance earned him first place – a testament to his dedication, passion, and growing expertise in the field of double reed performance.
Participation in national competitions like this not only enriches our students’ musical education, but also bolsters the visibility and enthusiasm for double reed instruments within the Terrace community. It highlights the progress and success of our double reed department giving the foundations to want to seek further information and competition.
Aiden’s success is the result of dedication and hard work. Alongside his competition preparation, Aiden maintains a busy schedule, participating in Flute and Double Reed Choir, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Terrace Symphony Orchestra on oboe, as well as Waterford String Orchestra and Waterford String Quartet on viola. He has also represented Terrace in the State Honours Ensemble Program and is an active debater, basketballer, rower, and swimmer.
We are incredibly proud of Aiden’s achievement and look forward to seeing him shine in future events, including our Celebration of Excellence, in the years to come.
